We’re a quarter century into the 21st century and nearly twenty years into our collective effort to remake learning in the greater Pittsburgh region. Many of the new ideas and novel innovations that instigated our work in 2007 have become part of our everyday experience of teaching and learning. Meanwhile, a new crop of social transformations and disruptive innovations reminds us that the future of learning is still just beyond the horizon.
As we look to the year ahead, we are energized by the opportunities that await to keep learning with our network members and partners. We have a lot in store for 2025. Here are a few highlights of what we’re looking forward to most of all.
Convene

At its core, Remake Learning is all about bringing people together. Relationships are the first step and the lasting impact of our work. In 2025, we’ll continue to convene in real-world and virtual spaces to build connections, exchange ideas, learn from one another, and seed collaboration.
Our casual networking events like Meetups and Lunch & Learns will return with fresh opportunities to explore the far corners of our ecosystem and push our thinking.
We’re particularly excited about a new addition to our convening activities: Master Classes will be one-of-a-kind opportunities to hear from experts within our network and benefit from their deep experience and world-class expertise.
Coordinate

When people get together, shared interests emerge. Topics, ideas, and questions surface to be explored together. To help turn conversation into collaboration, we organize opportunities for people to connect across sectors and work together in areas of mutual interest.
In 2025, we’ll do this primarily through our three active working groups.
- The Pittsburgh Regional STE(A)M Ecosystem will continue its focus on helping educators guide learners along career pathways in emerging STEM industries.
- The Personalized Learning Working Group will continue to drive system-level change to increase personalization and learner agency within regional school districts.
- The Civic Learning Ecosystem will continue to broaden the definition of civic learning to incorporate opportunities for learners to develop their sense of belonging, connection, and agency.
To spark new connections around emerging areas of interest, we’re launching a new way to coordinate in 2025: Pulse Checks are dynamic, time-bound exploration of a topic, culminating in a landscape scan, a whitepaper, and a strategic direction for the network. In 2025 we’ll launch Pulse Checks focused on Artificial Intelligence and Outdoor Learning.
As a region home to many rural communities, we’re thrilled to announce that Remake Learning will take a leading role in organizing the Rural Schools Collaborative, a network of rural educators, administrators, and community leaders dedicated to supporting, connecting, and enhancing the potential of rural schools and their communities.
Catalyze

Grants and other forms of support have been critical to the growth and evolution of our regional learning ecosystem. In 2025, Remake Learning will continue to invest in bold ideas and the creative people who bring them to life in the lives of learners.
In 2025, the Moonshot Grant program returns with $1 million of funding to distribute. This year, Moonshot Grants will focus on igniting region-wide transformations inspired by the priorities of Remake Learning’s Working Groups. Applicants do not need to be members of a Remake Learning Working Group to apply.
Be on the lookout for more as we prepare to open the Moonshot Grant application period in February.
Communicate

Incredible things are happening all across the region. We work hard to find, document, and share the impact of learning remade. We’ll continue to communicate with you across a variety of platforms in 2025.
We’ll continue to send our monthly newsletter and bi-monthly focus area updates, delivering recent stories, upcoming events, and special opportunities right to your inbox. Are you subscribed? If not, complete this form to get on the list.
We’ll share stories, promote opportunities, and amplify voices on Facebook, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn. Follow us in your favorite place to stay engaged.
We’ll also continue to publish original stories and photos that spotlight the remarkable things happening in and around the Pittsburgh regional learning ecosystem. And later this summer, we’ll release a new publication exploring the concept of “education for human flourishing.”
Stay in touch: Subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on Facebook, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn.
Celebrate

Learning is a joyful, transcendent experience. Naturally, we look for ways to celebrate the transformative power of learning.
2025 will give us a special reason to celebrate as we recognize 10 years of Remake Learning Days, the global learning festival for youth and families that began in Pittsburgh and has since taken root in regions across the world.
Don’t miss your chance to host a Remake Learning Days event and create memorable hands-on learning experiences for children and their families. Sign up to host an event by February 21st.
Later on in the fall, we’ll gather the network together for our annual Remake Learning Assembly to celebrate what we’ve learned together and to look ahead to what the future holds.
Make sure you’re part of the network so you don’t miss out.
