Maker Learning

Pittsburgh is home to a thriving community of DIY makers, tinkerers, inventors, and innovators of all ages. In and out of schools, makers combine physical and digital skills from science and engineering, technology and media, crafting, and the arts to learn how to work together to reshape the world.

Educators know the power of hands-on learning. That's one reason the Maker Movement is making its way into classrooms, after school programs, community centers, and summer camps.

Early Learning

STEAM Learning

STEAM is an approach to education that emphasizes the integral role of arts and creativity in the learning process for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. In Pittsburgh, educators both in and outside of the classroom are incorporating STEAM education into curricula.

Integrating the arts and sciences, STEAM programs challenge children to use their technical skills to remake and remix the world around them by challenging them to put their curiosity and creativity to work.

Youth Voice

Media is a driving force behind many of the changes facing the world today and being fluent in the language of video, audio, and interactive media is becoming more and more essential.
