Tom Ralston began his tenure as superintendent of the Avonworth School District in 2012. Prior to his appointment as superintendent, Tom served as a middle school principal, teacher, and coach in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. He is dedicated to engaging students by providing a dynamic learning environment that accentuates authentic, real-world experiences for children. Tom also believes that the uniqueness of each child and their developmental needs should always be at the forefront of teaching and learning.
Tom received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education from West Liberty University in 1989; a Masters of Science Degree in Educational Leadership Studies from West Virginia University in 1996; and a Doctorate in Education from Youngstown State University in 2014. In 2010, Tom was awarded the Administrator of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Association for Middle Level Education. In addition to his duties as superintendent at Avonworth, Tom also serves on the Executive Committee of the Tri-State Study Council of the University of Pittsburgh.
In his leisure time, Tom enjoys reading, exercising, and playing guitar. Tom resides in Ohio Township with his wife, Michelle, and two children.
Tom is a member of the Remake Learning Council.
