Salary Range: $50,000 – $56,000 (Note: Salary range may increase with demonstrated fundraising capabilities.)

Position Summary
Assemble is looking for an experienced Development and Marketing Manager who is driven by our mission, vision, and values. This role leads the creation and execution of Assemble’s annual fundraising and marketing strategy to ensure the organization’s financial sustainability and growth.
As the lead fundraiser, this role is responsible for expanding and maintaining individual donor and corporate giving relationships, as well as managing fundraisers and building our network. This includes managing donor communications, corporate sponsors, planning yearly fundraising events, and overseeing all fundraising initiatives, such as Giving Tuesday, End-of-Year campaigns, and other programs.
A key member of Assemble’s leadership team, this role plays a vital part in advancing the organization’s visibility, financial strength, and community impact. This role will collaborate across all departments and is encouraged to creatively engage with potential and existing supporters while re-imagining and remixing traditional fundraising methods.
Reporting Structure
The Development and Marketing Manager manages two direct reports: the Marketing and Development Coordinator and the Grant Writer and Coordinator. This position also manages development and marketing-related interns.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
10% — Development Strategy
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to meet the organization’s annual revenue goals ($1.4M+).
 - Lead, coordinate, and execute fundraising events and campaigns, managing budgets and timelines.
 - Conduct market research and analysis to identify new funding opportunities.
 - Research and implement innovative methods for fundraising and donor cultivation while centering Assemble’s values and Community-Centric Fundraising methods.
 
35% — Fundraising (Corporate, Major, Individual Donors)
- Oversee and expand the Individual Giving, Major Donors, Corporate Sponsorship, and Monthly Giving Programs.
 - Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential donors, sponsors, and grantmaking organizations.
 - Develop, oversee, and manage all donor messaging and appeals, and build relationships through various outreach channels (in-person events, mailings, calls, etc.).
 - Document, create, and distribute all tax-exempt documentation for donors and gifts.
 - Grant Management:
- Oversee and manage the Grant Writer and Coordinator in grant research, writing, submission, and reporting.
 - Review grant proposals and provide key feedback.
 - Collaborate with the Evaluation Manager on grant reporting requirements and maintain a comprehensive grant calendar.
 
 - Corporate Donors/Sponsors:
- Identify potential corporate donors and sponsors and solicit their support.
 - Create attractive sponsorship packages and implement personalized stewardship plans.
 
 - Major and Individual Donors:
- Oversee the prospecting of major/individual donors and opportunities for connection.
 - Develop and implement personalized stewardship plans to foster pathways for increased engagement and support.
 
 - Board Relations:
- Work closely with the Board and Executive Director to develop fundraising strategies and secure board “GIVE/GET” support.
 - Provide updates to the Executive Director and Board on fundraising progress and attend Development Committee meetings.
 
 
15% — Marketing, Community, and Public Relations
- Develop and manage an annual marketing strategy and budget to grow visibility, engagement, and giving.
 - Manage the creation of all marketing materials, including digital content, newsletters, press releases, and annual reports.
 - Oversee the organization’s digital presence (WordPress, MailChimp, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok), including content calendar management and SEO optimization.
 - Community and Public Relations:
- Represent Assemble at community events, conferences, and networking opportunities to build relationships with prospective and existing donors.
 - Build partnerships with other organizations, businesses, and community leaders.
 
 - Programmatic Marketing:
- Create and distribute all digital and physical marketing materials for programs and events.
 - Collaborate with Program Managers to increase awareness and participant recruitment.
 
 
10% — Event Planning
- Plan, coordinate, and execute Assemble’s signature fundraising events (e.g., 6×6 and MakerDate).
 - Collaborate with staff to create cohesive event materials, including sponsorship packets and promotional content.
 - Identify, cultivate, and secure event sponsors, acting as their main point of contact.
 - Oversee all event logistics, including timelines, vendor relations, volunteer coordination, and budget management.
 
10% — Donor Data Management, Analysis, and Reporting
- Oversee the management of the donor database (Bloomerang), ensuring accurate tracking and reporting.
 - Analyze donor data to inform strategies, identify trends, and discover opportunities for growth.
 - Monitor and report on fundraising data to evaluate performance.
 
10% — Development Team Management
- Hire, train, coach, and manage development staff and interns.
 - Lead and manage the development team, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance reviews.
 - Ensure the development team is meeting fundraising goals and objectives.
 
5% — Organizational Leadership and Collaboration
- Participate in weekly leadership meetings, collaborate in cross-departmental planning, and facilitate internal communication.
 - Collaborate with other managers and the Executive Director on high-level decisions.
 
5% – Advance Assemble’s Vision, Mission, and Values
- Coordinate events and model behaviors that continue to build Assemble’s culture.
 - Attend Assemble events, professional development opportunities, and occasional Board meetings as requested.
 - Assist with other tasks as needed.
 
Job Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent work experience in a non-profit setting.
 - Must have Management and Supervisory experience.
 - Proven experience with donor relations and fundraising events.
 - Experience managing tasks in a fast-paced environment.
 - Experience with marketing and graphic design preferred.
 - Experience working and prior relationships with the Garfield community
 - An understanding or desire to learn more about the philanthropic, arts, and education landscapes of Pittsburgh.
 
Skills

 - Graphic Design: Competent with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and/or Figma.
 
 - Communication:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
 - Ability to communicate with a range of people (coworkers, children, parents, funders, donors, board members).
 - Adept at mediation and collaboration.
 
 - Managerial:
- Ability to manage, supervise, and mentor staff and interns.
 - Ability to scaffold projects as growth opportunities.
 
 
Other Requirements
- Comfort with networking and outreach, including attending events, making phone calls, and attending meetings.
 - Significant analytical ability and a high degree of attention to detail.
 - Passion for STEAM education and a strong desire to learn and share knowledge.
 - Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
 - Must be able to obtain and keep current clearances for PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal Record, FBI PA Department of Education Clearance, and Mandated Reporter Certificate.
 
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional, collaborative office environment at our space in Pittsburgh. This role requires flexibility to adapt to flexible work hours, evolving program priorities, and a versatile physical environment. The role will involve attending evening and weekend events for networking and fundraising purposes.
Physical Demands
This role requires the ability to:
- Communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with staff, donors, and community members.
 - Operate a computer and other office machinery for extended periods.
 - Lift and move items up to 25 lbs for events or program setup.
