New program aims to help high school girls become FAA certified drone pilots

During this Women’s History Month, local school districts are getting more young women involved in STEM.

A new program aims to train a new generation of drone pilots. It’s called “Fly Like a Girl.”

The program will reach high school girls specifically in the 10th and 11th grade. It will initially benefit Baldwin-Whitehall, Beaver Area, and South Fayette Township school districts.

“To be a drone operator applies to so many different fields, so our students are going to graduate with this FAA certification. They will be employable the day they have the certification,” director of communication, innovation, and advancement for the Baldwin-Whitehall School District, Janeen Peretin, said.
