Susie Backscheider
Susie Backscheider came to Pittsburgh to serve as an AmeriCorps volunteer and fell in love with the neighborhood she served in the South Hills. This community is filled with families from all over the world including Bhutan, Burma, Nepal, Bosnia, Liberia, Sudan, Thailand, Turkey, and more. After finishing her commitment to AmeriCorps, Susie became the youth mentoring coordinator for South Hills Interfaith Movement (SHIM) where she oversees mentoring groups, homework help, field trips, college preparation, and other activities aimed at preparing students to become successful, caring, and motivated young adults.
