Steven Katkich
Mr. Steve Katkich currently serves as the principal of Beaver Area Middle School in the Beaver Area School District, a National School to Watch and tier 1 positive behavior interventions and supports recognized school in the State of Pennsylvania; he has held this position since October of 2020. Prior to this experience, Mr. Katkich served as the assistant principal at Dutch Ridge Elementary School in the Beaver
Area School District for five years, during which time the school was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School. Further, Mr. Katkich also previously had the privilege of serving as a 7th grade learning support teacher for over seven years in the Avonworth School District. Even when he was not working in middle school, a middle level philosophy has always driven Mr. Katkich’s decisions, as evidenced by his article “A Secondary Mindset in an Elementary World” in the Winter 2018 edition of The Pennsylvania Administrator. Mr. Katkich is an advocate of teaming, co-teaching, interdisciplinary instruction, advisory time and SEL, the 4Cs across the curriculum, active and relevant learning experiences, Personalized Learning, and positive behavior supports. In 2024, Mr. Katkich was honored with the Leonard R. Ference Outstanding Middle Level Principal Award by the Pennsylvania Association of Middle Level Education (PAMLE), a distinction which he attributes to the wonderful faculty he is surrounded by daily: professionals who continually inspire him with their desire to sensibly push the boundaries of education for the betterment of the children they serve.
