Larry Berger

After creating the national-award-winning public radio program The Saturday Light Brigade as a teen in the 1970s, Larry Berger founded SLB Radio Productions as a vehicle to use radio, podcasting, and other forms of audio to amplify voices of youth in contexts supporting self-expression, community engagement, and development of life skills. Active in Remake Learning since its beginning, he is passionate about creating atmospheres that encourage youth to confidently explore and grow. In this spirit and under his leadership, SLB opened a 3,500 SF Youth Media Center in 2022 with five studios, eight work stations, two classrooms, loanable equipment, and caring mentors to support youth as they create and share commentaries, documentaries, original writing, music and more. The YMC is co-located in the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh and serves students from throughout Allegheny County through field trips, an afterschool program, classroom visits, and on-air features.
