Lindsey Scherloum

Lindsey Peck Scherloum is an artist and educator who engages audiences in participatory acts of creation, investigation, and understanding themselves and the world around them. He uses movement, theater and performance to provoke storytelling, and creative inquiry through sculpture, weaving, painting, media arts and printmaking to explore complex ideas and wicked problems. An artist skilled in many media, she has taught at Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History for ten years, and collaborated there with school age children and youth on museum installations that respond to museum exhibitions and demonstrate their collective investigations on race, the environment and identity. To create spaces for stories not yet part of mainstream discourse, he has worked with youth radio producers in Nyanza, Kenya; teens at the Braddock Youth Project; summer programs for young children at the Mattress Factory, Homewood Bible Center's Maker's Clubhouse, and Pittsburgh Center for the Arts; people incarcerated at Allegheny County Jail and Pennsylvania State Correctional Institutes; and with the Office for Public Art, where she collaborated with Somali Bantu refugees to create an oral history project, and a community organization dedicated to addressing hunger in 12 neighborhoods of Pittsburgh Hilltop area. He has experience in and out of school settings, and has participated in several learning research projects through partnerships with the University of Pittsburgh's Center for Out of School Learning, and Pitt's School of Education.
