We all know that teaching the Holocaust is emotionally taxing, not just for your students, but also for you. The Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh believes that you (the teacher) must first take care of yourself before you can take care of others (your students). With that in mind, we’re holding our first-ever “Act 70 Wellness Day” on Friday, March 7, 2025, on Chatham University’s campus in Shadyside.

The day will be centered on supporting you and giving you the tools and connections to other educators so you can continue to do the difficult work. The day will include self-care activities, networking opportunities to meet other Holocaust educators, and information about local organizations that can help you teach the Holocaust more easily. Act 48 credits will be provided.

A community of practice for family engagement practitioners in Maine, Maryland, and Pennsylvania
Join our four-session Community of Practice on asset mapping, a powerful tool for creating effective family engagement plans by identifying and leveraging strengths within communities or families. This series will guide attendees in tailoring family engagement plans, fostering cultural inclusivity, and identifying potential collaborators. Participants will also explore practical strategies for incorporating asset mapping into strategic planning and resource allocation to maximize the impact on family engagement.

Perfect for educators, administrators, family engagement coordinators, community leaders and organizers, and policymakers and advocates, this series will provide opportunities to connect with peers and learn from experts in the field.

Session III: Thursday, January 23, 2025, 11:00am-12:30pm (ET)

MAEC’s Collaborative Action for Family Engagement (CAFE) and Center for Education Equity (CEE) present Complementing the School Day: Tools and Supports for Out-of-School Time (OST) Providers, a five-part family engagement series.

In both classrooms and out-of-school time (OST) settings, we share a common goal: improving the academic achievement of students. The Biden-Harris Administration’s 2024 Improving Student Achievement Agenda highlights three key strategies to boost academic performance, one of which is increasing summer learning and extended or after-school learning time. OST programs, bridging school and home life, play a key role in this effort.

In this five-part webinar series, we will equip OST providers with the tools and supports they need. Join us to explore the following focus areas:
-Program Quality and Equity
-Amplifying Family Voice
-Mental Wellness for Staff and Students
-Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
-Community and School Partnerships

This year’s Teacher Open House will feature the current exhibition: KAWS + Warhol, which pairs the work of contemporary artist and designer, KAWS, with the work of Andy Warhol to explore themes of commercialism and the dark side of popular culture. The evening will include networking, gallery talks, art-making, and classroom resources. Teachers in attendance receive information about school partnerships and can receive four Act 48 credit hours.

Meaningful Play 2024 is a conference about theory, research, and game design innovations, principles and practices. Meaningful Play brings scholars, industry professionals and games practitioners together to understand and improve upon games to entertain, inform, educate, and persuade in meaningful ways.

Carnegie Mellon University has a lot of inspirational graduate engineering students, who are enthusiastic and excited about STEM outreach!

If you are interested in having CMU students visit your classroom, either to support an upcoming lesson, or to bring an NGSS/STEELS activity, coding activity, or engineering activity to your students, please fill out our google form! As former K-12 teachers ourselves, we are looking forward to working together with you in order to support our local Pittsburgh area teachers, and K-12 students interested in engineering. This year, engineering student teams are currently prioritizing Physical Science and Engineering for 2024-2025, but we do still have some Earth and Life Science content available if requested.

Program content is primarily for academic classroom day content, but can be adapted for informal OST programs as well!

For 6-12 classrooms, we will continue to bring lessons that support coding lessons, engineering topics (hardware, AI, ML), and hands on math and physics lessons. We also support egg drops, and bridge building activities throughout the academic year in case you would like a few pairs of extra hands!
