Mac Howison is the Program Officer for Creative Learning at The Heinz Endowments, where his work focuses primarily on grantee initiatives that intersect with the Endowments’ Creativity and Learning program areas. The Program Officer for Creative Learning reflects the Endowments’ emphasis on work that helps ensure a regional environment where all Pittsburgh residents – especially children and youth – have access to the benefits of creative opportunities.

Prior to joining The Heinz Endowments, Mac was the Senior Program Officer for Catalytic Funding at The Sprout Fund, where he worked with regional and national philanthropic partners to build strong networks and make nearly $7 million of community-decided investments in more than 1,000 early-stage projects, organizations, innovators, and activities.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mac is President of the board of directors of Bike Pittsburgh where he works to make Pittsburgh communities safe and welcoming through biking and walking improvements. A musician, painter, and outdoor enthusiast, he has a BFA in Fine Art from Carnegie Mellon University and resides in the Swissvale neighborhood of Pittsburgh with his wife Jennifer, an artist and teacher.
