The Crocus Project
The Crocus Project, created by Holocaust Education Ireland, commemorates the Jewish children who perished in the Holocaust. The goal of this initiative is to have more than 1.5 million crocuses in bloom, which are planted in memory of the 1.5 million Jewish children who perished in the Holocaust and the thousands of other children who were victims of Nazi atrocities.
Through the Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh, educators can apply for grants to receive bulbs for students to plant, offering a tangible and age-appropriate way to introduce the Holocaust.
These grants are only available for educators located in our outreach region, (Western Pennsylvania, parts of Ohio, and parts of West Virginia).
Students must plant their crocus bulbs by mid-Noevember.
Bulbs may be planted in the ground or in flowerpots to be kept indoors. If using flower pots, the bulbs should still be planted before fall is over so that they bloom in the spring.
