Call for Workshop Proposals – STEAM Symposium

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust Arts Education Department is thrilled to be bringing back our annual STEAM Symposium! We are seeking proposals for interactive and informative STEAM based workshops designed for middle and high school students.

Workshops will be 60-minutes long (facilitated three times per day) and should center on a key “STEAM Industry” with an emphasis on art and design (see below for examples). Local middle and high school students will rotate through the workshops during the STEAM Symposium, hosted by the Cultural Trust with funding from PNC Foundation.

The theme of this year’s STEAM Symposium is “Consumers to Creators” and we are looking for workshops that provide students with opportunities to engage in hands-on learning, direct application of ideas and concepts, encourage creative risk-taking.

Compensation:

  • $200 for lesson planning and pre-Symposium meetings
  • $900 for workshop facilitation ($100 per 60-minute workshop X 9 workshops over 3 days)
  • $150 material budget**
  • Parking passes, breakfast, and lunch provided during the Symposium.

Qualifications or Parameters:

  • Workshops must be interactive with opportunities for students to practice or “try out” the industry or art form.
  • No formal education background is required though experience with middle and high school students is preferred.
  • Must be available November 19, 20, & 21 between 8:30am-2pm and 1-2 times leading up to the Symposium for planning (specific days/times TBD based on facilitator availability).
  • Must have or be willing to secure state and federal clearances for working with minors.
