Dr. Wooten taught biology and chemistry for 15 years in Virginia and Pennsylvania, was high school principal in the Riverview school district, curriculum and instruction leader in the Mars Area school district, and middle school principal, Director of Curriculum and Instruction and Superintendent in the South Side Area school district.
She was a researcher and evaluator for the University of Pittsburgh on the New Futures Project, an initiative aimed at dropout prevention and student support in Pittsburgh Public high schools. Her international experiences in education include research in Taishi-Cho, Japan and schools across Germany. She is Senior Consultant for Schools That Can Pittsburgh, the largest national cross sector network of urban schools.
Dr. Wooten serves on the Board of Directors for New Century Careers and Hill House Passport Academy and on the Education Advisory Committee at Point Park University. She is an adjunct professor in the Administrative & Policy Studies Department in the School of Education and a Faculty Fellow at the Center for Urban Education at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Wooten received the Excellence in Educational Leadership Award in 2011 and the 2013 Departmental Alumni Award for the Department of Administrative and Policy Studies at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Wooten is a Remake Learning Ambassador.
