Dr. Szewczyk is a Principal and Supervisor of Special Education at the Intermediate Unit 1, a regional educational agency servicing Fayette, Greene, and Washington counties. Dr. Szewczyk is the Principal at the Intermediate Unit 1 Educational Campus at Waynesburg, which provides special education services to students in grades kindergarten through 12 with mental health disorders, behavior/emotional needs, intellectual disabilities, and autism. Dr. Szewczyk is dedicated to providing a safe learning environment that fosters creativity, collaboration, and innovation among its students and staff. The Intermediate Unit 1 Educational Campus at Waynesburg houses a stationary Fab Lab. Students use their ingenuity to design and fabricate a variety of projects using 3-D printers, a vinyl cutter, a laser engraver, and Shop Bot. Students also participate in the Inventionland curriculum involving a project-based learning process. Students frequently use the Fab Lab to enable their inventions come to life. Dr. Szewczyk is currently focusing on expanding the use of the Fab Lab to community members and organizations.
