Jonathan Sewall is a staff programmer in Carnegie Mellon’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute, where he works on software tools meant to enable schoolteachers and other non-programmers to create intelligent tutoring systems (ITSs) for use in classrooms, textbooks, etc.

An ITS is an online interactive web page that simulates the behavior of a human tutor, providing one-on-one, step-by-step hints and immediate feedback as the student works through a learning-by-doing exercise.
