Laura Roop

Laura Roop directs the Western Pennsylvania Writing Project, a site of the National Writing Project supported by the University of Pittsburgh School of Education. She is an assistant professor of English Education, and teaches courses on new media literacies, writing assessment, and the teaching of writing.

She received her Ph.D. in English Education from University of Michigan, where she worked as outreach director and school-research relations coordinator for fifteen years before moving to Pittsburgh. In that capacity, she followed a cohort of struggling mathematics students through high school as part of an Algebra Project initiative, designing summer programs and engaging in teacher support and qualitative research. She writes poetry and is active in Carlow University’s Madwomen in the Attic program.
