Dr. Nicole Mitchell has been teaching English in the Peters Township School District for sixteen years.  She earned her doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of Pittsburgh.  Dr. Mitchell was a member of the Pennsylvania Act 70 subcommittee; Act 70 is the state legislation setting forth guidelines for teaching Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Violation curriculum.  Dr. Mitchell’s interests also include  initiatives that help to promote equity and inclusion and overcome outcome disparities and marginalization of students with unique academic and emotional needs.  Currently, she is working on a grant proposal to obtain multimodal resources that allow students to engage with multiliteracies and different forms of meaning making.  This grant is an extension of her research on ways multimodal approaches to instruction and assessment enhance comprehension, visualization, and self efficacy in struggling learners.
