Michael Micco is the Manager of Instructional Technology at Commonwealth Charter Academy Cyber School. While Michael has been in his position, he has been an integral part of the development and building of the schools home-grown LMS called Edio. The idea of the home-grown LMS is to give students a platform that is easy to use, but robust in functionality, so that students can access resources and curriculum that will prepare them for life after high school. He is currently working with a third party to develop a platform for adaptive learning to ensure that each student is getting all the resources they need to be successful in and out of school.
Michael was a materials chemist at Greenville Metals in Greenville, PA before he heading back to get his education degree and certification from Youngstown State University. Michael spent 11 years teaching science at public, parochial, and cyber schools including West Middlesex, St. Joseph Elementary School, New Castle Jr/Sr High, and Commonwealth Charter Academy. Michael would incorporate project-based learning, technology, and critical thinking into his lessons to push students with problem-solving skills. After teaching, Michael took a position as an assistant principal in the middle school at Commonwealth Charter Academy, where he helped serve 2,400 students.
Since his days as a materials chemist, Michael looks for opportunities to help students learn the skills that will help them in the workforce. He uses his connections outside of education to get a feel for what employers are looking for and works with staff to ensure that those skills are being addressed in the curriculum so that students are successful in their internships. He is constantly looking to help create more opportunities for cyber students to have a hands-on approach to evolving technologies, so they can pursue jobs in fields that they never thought of.
