In 2007, David McCommons was appointed as the assistant superintendent of the Fox Chapel Area School District, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Prior to coming to Fox Chapel Area School District, Dr. McCommons had served as assistant to the superintendent at Ellwood City Area School District in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. He had also worked in that district as an assistant elementary school principal and a principal. Additionally, he served as an elementary classroom teacher in both Kentucky and Maryland.
Dr. McCommons graduated from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education. He went on to earn his Master of Education degree from Bowie State University in Bowie, Maryland. Dr. McCommons earned his Doctorate of Education degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2001.
Currently, Dr. McCommons serves as the president of the Mid-Western Region of the Pennsylvania Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, which he has been a member of since 2006. Since 2008, Dr. McCommons has been a guest instructor for the University of Pittsburgh for the Superintendent’s Assessment Lab and the School of Education.
Dr. McCommons’ memberships include the American Association of School Administrators, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Pennsylvania Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Pennsylvania Association of Federal Programs Coordinators, Pennsylvania School Boards Association, and the National Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals.
