Dr. John McCarthy directs the Center for Creativity and Change and is a professor in the Department of Counseling at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He has presented on creative problem-solving and creative thinking in the US and internationally, including a keynote conference address in Singapore in 2014.

He has presented on creative problem-solving and creative thinking in the US and internationally, including a keynote conference address in Singapore in 2014. His e-book, Driving Forward in Reverse, was released in 2016, and his professional writings have been featured in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Buffalo News, Counseling Today, and the Psychotherapy Networker.
From 2009–15, Dr. McCarthy participated in the International Academic Fellowship Program in the Higher Education Support Program of the Open Society Institute. In this role, he worked with both Tbilisi State University in the Republic of Georgia and Yerevan State University in Armenia. In addition, he has offered professional presentations in Turkey, Singapore, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, England, Canada, and Taiwan.
In Spring 2011, he served as an Academic Visitor at the University of Cambridge (UK).
His other interests include solution-focused counseling and cognitive behavioral therapy; wellness; and Motivational Interviewing.
