Amiena Mahsoob is an innovator in the global education space. Through her role as Director of Education Programs with the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh, she leads the education team in the design and implementation of programming efforts for middle and high school students and educators. She and her team are responsible for designing learning pathways for students to become globally competent, develop leadership skills, and prepare for a rapidly changing workforce.

A classroom teacher by training, Amiena taught in the Pittsburgh region and Japan before joining the Council in 2008. She is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh’s Master of Arts in Teaching program. As an undergraduate, she studied English at the Pennsylvania State University and studied abroad at the American University in Cairo. She has traveled to twenty countries for work, study, and pleasure.

Amiena is heavily involved in the Greater Pittsburgh community. She has been involved with numerous organizations including Strong Women, Strong Girls, New Pittsburgh Collaborative, Pittsburgh Japan Exchange and Teaching Alumni Association, YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Council for International Education, and Environmental Charter School. She currently serves on the Education Policy Committee of the University of Pittsburgh Institute of Politics, YWCA Center for Race & Gender Equity Community Advisory Committee, Athena Award Host Committee, and TRETC Planning Committee. She is a graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh, Inc.’s Leadership Development Initiative class XVII. She is a Celebrating Women Having a Global Impact Nominee with the Women and Girls Foundation. She is the 2013 Athena Young Professional Awardee.

The Council partners with people and organizations in the Remake Learning network and is involved with the digital badging and learning pathways movements.
