Melissa Butler is Director of Children’s Innovation Project. She is a teacher, writer, researcher and educational consultant with a focus on supporting children’s curiosities through development of learning habits to notice and wonder, and also supporting teachers (and systems supporting teachers) to focus on teaching and learning conditions that support children’s curiosities as a basis for inquiry. She taught for 23 years in urban public schools, most recently teaching Kindergarten in Pittsburgh Public Schools. She has a Masters Degree in Curriculum Theory from Penn State University and a Masters Degree in Creative Writing from the University of Cape Town. She is National Board Certified as an Early Childhood Generalist and a Teacher Consultant with the Western PA Writing Project/National Writing Project. She lives in Pittsburgh, PA.
