The mission of The Urban Academy of Greater Pittsburgh Charter School is to provide superior education that will develop students’ academic excellence, leadership skills, and social values and enable them to ultimately become positive contributors to the community in which they live, and society as a whole.

The Urban Academy is situated in a community experiencing an increasing opportunity gap between black and white students. Even with a growing wage gap and gentrification of surrounding areas, The Urban Academy remains strongly nestled in the area as a community staple, providing a quality educational option for low-income families being pushed out of their neighborhoods. Additionally, The Urban Academy is one of a few schools where Black students and students from low-income families do better than their other city counterparts.
