The Lighthouse After School Program is under the nonprofit called “United Somali Bantu of Greater Pittsburgh”. This after after school program began as a pilot program in fall 2021 and after learning best approaches and strategies is now running again with a few adaptations. The purpose of their program is to come alongside of Somali Bantu families in Northview Heights and surrounding neighborhoods to support the youth in grades 1st-4th. The goal of this program is to make learning fun and accessible to children in this community because they so often get left behind in school due to parents not being involved or not understanding what their kids are going through or learning in school. The Lighthouse provides these children with opportunities to build character, gain new skills needed for thriving in school, and learn positive ways of interacting with their peers, all done in a fun and creative environment.
