Steel City Squash is an out-of-school time academic and athletic enrichment program that provides life-changing opportunities to students from low-income school districts in and around Pittsburgh. The mission of Steel City Squash is to provide consistent and long-term support to students and their families. The goal of each student in the program is to graduate high school, matriculate to college, graduate, and obtain a stable career in the field of their choice.
In order to serve its mission and accomplish its goals, Steel City Squash provides year-round programming for students starting in the 4th grade. Students are with Steel City Squash at least three days a week after school and receive at least 120 hours of direct academic tutoring during the school year. Furthermore, students learn the sport of squash and receive at least 120 hours of squash and fitness training during the academic year. In addition, students receive 15 hours of health and wellness curriculum, provide at least 5 hours of community service, and travel at least two weekends to colleges outside of Pittsburgh. Steel City Squash partners with schools and organizations all over the country to provide a range of unique opportunities for students in order to broaden their horizons. All of this is done free of charge for our students and families.
