Sculpture Support System is a collaborative endeavor of artists Sharon Massey and Sean Derry and is inspired by a desire to democratize art and technology. Sharon and Sean formed Sculpture Support System in 2019 with the intent to support the artistic development of emerging artists and create collaborative public projects that engage community members in a range of art-making processes. They intend for their collaborative work to empower project participants and fellow collaborators to reimagine the role of art in society. Sharon and Sean maintain individual art practices but come together as collaborators to work on a larger scale and to develop projects targeted at expressing underrepresented voices.
The work of Sculpture Support Systems spans multiple mediums and introduces project participants to traditional sculptural techniques as well as innovative digital fabrication processes. Sharon is a metalsmith and enamellist whose work includes experimental processes and new technologies. She has taught at institutions around the United States and serves on several non-profit boards. Sean’s work includes installations, public commissions, and curatorial projects. He has successfully acquired permits on a city, county, state, and federal level and is experienced working with individuals, neighborhood organizations, academic institutions, and government agencies.
