The Pittsburgh Promise scholarship program is designed to complement the Pittsburgh School District’s efforts to improve student achievement, awarding scholarships of up to $40,000 for students to attend accredited colleges and universities in the state of Pennsylvania. The program is helping to stem the decline of college enrollment, and raising test scores of the city’s public schools and select charter schools where students are eligible. In the first four years of its existence, scholarships were granted to 3,285 students and the program continues to grow as it improves the city’s schools and the graduates they send off to higher learning opportunities.
