Pittsburgh Learning Commons is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is to empower youth in the Pittsburgh region through hands-on, STEAM focused education. Their pedagogy is democratic and student driven with a crucial importance put on contextualizing the education in broader civic objectives within the participants’ community, and in concrete practices that one may encounter in life or in the workplace. This organization ties into many of the main objectives of Remake Learning, including: novel pedagogical approaches, which focus on relevant, hands-on experience; civic engagement and education meant to level the playing field; inclusivity; long-term project based programming engaging youth with cutting edge technology and the scientific literature.
