North Strabane Intermediate School

North Strabane Intermediate School (NSIS) is a public school in the Canon-McMillan School District. North Strabane Intermediate School is an innovative school striving to learn about new ways to impact teaching and learning. NSIS’s building theme “Anchored in Excellence” signifies their commitment to helping every student achieve success academically, socially, and emotionally.  Comprised of 400 students in fifth and sixth grade and approximately 40 professional staff members, NSIS is a middle level school focused on creating a collaborative learning experience to foster creativity, innovation, and critical thinking skills.

Teachers focus on best practices that are aligned to the needs and interests of today’s digital students. Using 21st century skills to empower students to be collaborative learners, technology integration with 1:1 Chromebooks enables teachers to create lessons that include a variety of technology applications on a daily basis. With innovation in mind, teachers design STEM-based experiences that challenge students to solve problems and think critically in a team-oriented atmosphere.

NSIS’s focus at the intermediate level is on helping students learn the value of contributing as a member of a team. The school’s goal is to put students in situations that will lead to the acquisition of knowledge, thus transferring to a motivated and productive member of their community.
