The Mohawk Area School District is located in the western portion of Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, and is comprised of the Boroughs of Bessemer, New Beaver, and S.N.P.J. and the townships of Mahoning, North Beaver, and Little Beaver. The district’s land area is approximately 107.6 square miles with a total population around 13,000.

The district is composed of one elementary (K-6) and one junior-senior high school (7-12), both situated on one campus. The enrollment is approximately 1,500 students. The Mohawk Area School District offers a comprehensive educational program focusing on Pennsylvania’s academic standards as well as the development of lifelong learning skills for all students. Eighty percent or more of district graduates continue their education at two-year or four-year colleges and universities. Core academic programs at each level emphasize basic skills, rigorous content knowledge, interdisciplinary relationships among content areas, and active student involvement in the learning process.  At each level, provision for support, enrichment, and acceleration are coordinated with the core program. At the secondary level, many elective courses are available to meet individual student interests.

The mission of the Mohawk Area School District, in partnership with families and in cooperation with the community, is to provide students with a rigorous and comprehensive education in a safe and stimulating environment. Committed to excellence, the district:

  • enables students to be critical thinkers and life-long learners,
  • equips students with the skills needed to meet the demands of an advancing technological society, and
  • and prepares students to become responsible citizens and contributors to a global society.
