Madison Elementary School is located on Wheeling Island in Wheeling, WV. Built in 1916, Madison is well over a century old. Housing 254 students, Madison services children in grades PK-5 and is often referred to as the “anchor” of the island. Madison is a Title 1 school as well as a Trauma Informed Elementary and Expanded Mental Health School. Madison shares a PDS partnership with West Liberty University. As a part of this partnership, Madison has worked to provide extended innovative opportunities during and after the school day.
One of the events currently in action is the Madison Square Sensory Garden. In this space, students are invited to enter a place where they can explore music, art, innovative play, nature, and STEAM. The school is working to transform this space into a place where students can not only explore academics, but also find a safe haven socially and emotionally.
