Kelly Strayhorn Theater is an intimate, professionally-equipped, 350-seat multiple-use performance venue in the East Liberty neighborhood of Pittsburgh. With a commitment to support the burgeoning arts community in the city of Pittsburgh, the theater serves as an ideal place for emerging local artists, regional artists and arts organizations to take risks and present new work. Kelly Strayhorn Theater is more than bricks and mortar; it is a living testament to the drive and creativity of true American originals. To enter the theater is to be in the presence of two creative and passionate spirits, who with their talent, tenacity, and love of their craft provide inspiration for us today: famed dancer and Hollywood movie legend Gene Kelly, born and raised in East Liberty, and Homewood-bred jazz composer Billy Strayhorn. Their spirits abound in the young East End artists of today.

As the last of nine theaters from the 1950s heyday of East Liberty, the Kelly Strayhorn plays a key role in the transformation of East Liberty into a welcoming and dynamic town-within-a-city by using the arts as a catalyst for continuing community revitalization. At KST we encourage diverse, inclusive and high quality, artistic, cultural and educational activities. By nurturing these pursuits, we contribute to cultural understanding, quality of life, as well as economic development in community, county, city and region. Kelly Strayhorn Theater is a unique and vibrant community performance arts center located in the heart of East Liberty, one of Pittsburgh’s most historic neighborhoods. Drawing audiences from throughout the city, the theater offers original and eclectic programming year-round. Please join us and experience first-hand the cultural renaissance of East Liberty, where the next great talents live, breathe, work and thrive among us!
