Evergreen After School Club is a before and after school and summer program that serves K-12 students and their families in Indiana County. Currently, they serve approximately 1,000 students annually in the following Indiana County school districts: Blairsville/Saltsburg, Homer-Center, Penns Manor, Purchase Line, and United. The program is open to all students, regardless of a student’s intellectual or physical abilities or their income levels. The students benefit from a trained professional staff of approximately 60 individuals (many of whom have backgrounds in education) in a caring atmosphere; their goal is to not only provide a safe place for children to go after school is out but to also provide educational opportunities and assistance.
The program is housed directly in the students’ schools; this configuration further enhances and encourages the collaborative efforts between Evergreen staff and the school district staff. Additionally, they regularly survey their students’ teachers and administration to gather information on how their students are doing with their attendance, grades, state assessment tests, and their behavior and participation during the school day to further build this relationship. Their program provides homework assistance, educational instruction, and recreation. Their program encompasses many components including STEAM curriculum, physical fitness, health education, the arts, and social emotional learning.
