Ramon “Tru” Dixon is affectionately known as Coach Tru to the community. He has been mentoring, coaching, and teaching youth from underserved communities on the East Side of Pittsburgh for over thirty-two years. These communities include: East Hills, East Liberty, Garfield, Homewood, Lincoln Larimer, Penn Hills, and Wilkinsburg. He grew up in Homewood and graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School in 1978. To this day, his heart and home are still on the East Side of Pittsburgh.

He has served as the Dean of Students and IT Administrator for Imani Christian Academy and since 2012.  As of 2018, he has also worked with young adjudicated men from Pennsylvania, Detroit, California, and Texas at Summit Academy as a Weekend Counselor.

He has been married to his wife Adella Dixon for twenty-two years; she is an Adjudicated Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, teaching Masters of Social Work for Allegheny County’s Children, Youth, and Family (CYS) social workers. Their daughter, Sherilyn, is in the final phase of her Doctoral Degree. Her dissertation is on “Educational Instructional Coaching” and she is expected to finish August 2021.

Starting September 2021, Tru will teach and prepare Imani Christian Academy students to pass Microsoft’s Office Certification Program in Word and Excel. In addition, Tru is currently developing the curriculum to teach Summit Academy’s students to repair Microsoft Xbox and Sony PlayStation consoles and controllers.  This certification program is expected to start in November 2021.

Tru and his family have found their purpose and have dedicated their lives to learning, teaching, and help to transform the lives of young people.
