The Arts Education Collaborative was established in 1998 to respond strategically to regional needs and pursue opportunities that provide sustainable solutions to advancing arts education. The AEC evolved from a 1998 regional Arts Education Congress in Pittsburgh, where concerned arts and education constituents determined the need for a focused effort in the region. Since that time, we have established rapport and collegiality with area arts educators, cultural, performing, and presenting arts organizations, policy makers, and advocates for the arts.
The AEC supplies professional development to arts educators and develops programs and services that respond to assessed needs for providers of the arts. We offer an intensive year-long professional development opportunity called the Leadership Academy. This opportunity provides participants to interact with a close network of peers who are devoted to becoming leaders in their schools and communities. These efforts, sustained by wide regional support, guarantee the AEC continues to implement its mission to strengthen education by making the arts central to learning through collaboration, research, and advocacy.
