Volunteers of America, Pennsylvania

The mission of Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania’s Youth Empowerment Project of Sharpsburg is to prevent risky behavior that can lead to crime and substance abuse by providing a safe and nurturing environment. Programming supports the children and youth in our community during the “at-risk” after-school and summer hours. We keep young people safe and engaged during the out-of-school time when they may be left unsupervised or feel disconnected.

Our newly designed program offers fun and exciting classes and experiences. Art, computer literacy, video production, yoga, robotics, field trips, guest speakers, and activities through Venture Outdoors are just a few of the offerings we present. Staff, adult volunteers, and high school mentors also manage school year homework help for elementary and middle school-aged youth. This study group reinforces the importance of education while providing students with one-on-one tutoring to assist children in completing their daily homework. We have recently launched a student-run screen printing shop as well called Main Street Screen Works.
