In this workshop for K12 music teachers (including general music, band, choir, and orchestra), Trust Arts Education will share a very specific toolkit for generating original music in a collaborative way with small and large groups of people with diverse musical abilities. Existing repertoire is fixed and can be hard to learn for some students, thus generating inequities in the band between those that can do it and those that can’t. A creative approach to collective music making eliminates this inequity and adds an extra layer of ownership and empowerment to those taking part in the creative process.
The workshop will cover a variety of topics, including:
- Realtime ensemble conducting
- Original music and lyrics generation games
- Leading cross-disciplinary creative processes
- Managing group dynamics and inequities
