ARYSE is seeking artists and/or partner organizations to implement youth-centered arts enrichment programming at their Girls Art and Maker Group program (Girls Group). Artist partners play a significant role in the program, as the workshops they facilitate throughout the year provide mediums of expression that transcend language, allow participants to share their stories in deeper ways, and demonstrate creative entrepreneurship in action.
Girls Group is a program of the Alliance for Refugee Youth Support and Education (ARYSE) and takes place 1-2 weekends each month starting in November, bringing together 10-15 young immigrant and refugee girls and femmes living in Allegheny County. The goal of Girls Group is to provide outlets for storytelling, creative expression, hobbies, and careers, especially in the arts. Girls Group participants are in middle and high school and vary in their countries of origin. In the 2020-21 school year, Girls Group was entirely virtual on Zoom and will continue in a primarily virtual format for the 2021-22 school year unless the teaching artist or partner organization can host at their place of work.
This year, ARYSE is looking for partners who can articulate how they will partner with youth in Girls Group so workshops and projects are truly youth-inspired and led. Additionally, their goal is that Girls Group participants will learn about and develop emotional resilience and creative listening skills. Their students have expressed interest in painting, fashion design, animation, photography, film, drawing, and music.
