The School of Art at Carnegie Mellon University seeks a Technician to oversee operations of its Physical Computing and Digital Fabrication facilities. The primary responsibilities of this role are the oversight, training, routine maintenance, and purchasing of physical computing and digital fabrication equipment housed within the school’s physical computing lab, laser cutting lab, 3D printing and PC lab, and CNC router lab. This individual will instruct students, faculty, and staff in the proper and safe use of various tools and equipment and will maintain an open office with consistent hours. They will prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously; communicate, interact, and collaborate effectively and courteously with people at all levels of the organization; and maintain accurate and detailed records. This individual should have excellent communication, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications:

  • Experience creating and maintaining electronic circuits and electromechanical systems
  • Experience with micro controllers such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi
  • Experience with basic use of additional sculpture equipment, such as power tools found in the wood and metal shop
