The Solve-A-Thon is a team-based competition to pitch projects that address the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS) and promote positive change in students’ schools and communities. After projects are pitched, judges will award $1,000 mini-grants to winning ideas!

Teams are open to any high school student (grades 9-12) in the U.S. or Canada interested in sustainability! A team can consist of any number of students and an (optional but encouraged) adult ally. All team members, including adult allies, should register individually.

Adult allies can be a teacher, principal, coach—any person who has the authority to represent a school or an organization can be an adult ally.

The Solve-A-Thon is divided into three sections, with both asynchronous and synchronous components:

  • The Prep Work (Estimated completion time: 60 mins. Completed asynchronously prior to the event)
  • The Project Proposal (Estimated completion time: 60 mins. Completed asynchronously prior to the event)
  • The Solve-A-Thon Project Pitch Competition (August 12 from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. Join live for coaching workshops to refine your project idea, develop your pitch, and network with other changemakers. The event will conclude with a Pitch Tank where you’ll have the opportunity to pitch your project idea to a panel of judges for a chance to win mini-grant funding!)

Teamwork and collaboration are strongly encouraged. All members of a team, including adult allies, should register individually.
