Western Pennsylvania Writing Project

In this 4-part course, participants will study beautiful examples of children’s literature (fiction, non-fiction, poetry) and find layered ways to leverage these examples as mentor texts for teaching young readers and writers. Participants will have an opportunity to find mentor texts for their grade level, align texts with their reading/writing curricula, discover relevant new picture books, explore ways to honor children’s illustration as part of writing, learn how to grow a writing workshop based on the creation of whole books, and create joyful opportunities for engaging young children to read and write their worlds.

Open to PreK-Grade 3 formal and informal educators (Educators of other grade levels are welcome to register knowing that our focus will primarily be on children ages 3-8).

Participants must be able to attend all four sessions.
