Youth Program Director Job Description:

At the Millvale Community Library, the Youth Program Director is responsible for coordinating and facilitating youth services in the realms of programming, mentorship, outreach, and relationship building. The Youth Program Director facilitates weekly programming, including but not limited to teen pizza nights, teen programming in art, sustainability, and youth voice, project-based learning maker workshops for elementary and middle school students, music-making workshops, and “mini makers” workshops for parents and toddlers.

In the summer months, the Youth Program Director is responsible for coordinating and facilitating 6 weeks of themed, maker-oriented summer camps for kids ages 5-12. During COVID-19, these programs have all endured through mostly-virtual formats.

The Youth Program Director is the main connecting piece between the MCL and the larger education networks our organization is situated within, most notably the Remake Learning Network, Agency by Design, the Triboro Ecodistrict, and the Shaler Area School District. This means the Youth Program Director makes monthly visits to the Shaler Area Middle School and Shaler Area High School and works closely on projects with students and teachers that support a community-based approach to education.

On-site, the Youth Program Director is the point person for anything to do with our Youth Patrons and is responsible for curating an empowering learning environment.

Responsibilities include:

• Planning and facilitating weekly programming for school-age kids and teens
• Planning and facilitating six weeks of summer camps (in addition to regular programming)
• Maintaining and creating relationships with new and existing programming partners
• Performing outreach for upcoming events and programs
• Seeking out funding opportunities for youth programming/community events
• Collaborating with the Executive Director in writing grants to support MCL programming
• Creating thoughtful programs that respond to the needs of the community, including but not limited to: access to fresh food, mental/emotional health education, anti-racist education.
• Connecting youth and families to resources, within the MCL itself and in the community at large
• Creating time and space to listen and talk to kids
• Participating/leading community meetings with local partners
• Attending professional development opportunities to grow and learn from other educators
• Maintaining the library maker space through regular inventories and clean ups
• Additional responsibilities as needed

 Compensation:

• Salary range: $28-32,000 (based on experience)
