In this family engagement experience, we invite you and your child to build “mini rooms” from recyclable materials commonly found in your home! This activity will engage you and your child in dialogue about your favorite room at home, ultimately designing and building a mini-version of the room.

The activity is hosted by Maureen Frew, an elementary maker teacher at Avonworth Primary Center as well as the founder/teacher leader of JAM, and Yu-Ling Cheng, co-producer of Remake Learning Days Across America. For this activity, you will need the following materials:

  • cardboard paper
  • glue
  • scissors
  • recyclable materials like bottle caps, scrap paper, plastic, scrap paper, etc.
  • markers

Remake Learning Days Across America (RDLAA) is a festival of creative, hands-on experiences for youth and families to learn together about how education is being remade. In 2021, sixteen regions across America will host family-friendly learning festivals from April 22-May 23.
