As the program manager, Tacumba oversees both the farming operations and educational programs. The farm and fishery consist of raised beds and an aquaponics system which is located in the Greenhouse powered by solar energy. In addition to farming, he also teaches a nutritional wisdom program called ” Better Food Better Me” which focuses on working with students in grades 1st-5th primarily to explore how to prepare healthy meals, while also discovering the nutritional and cultural facets of the dishes we eat together.
This series of Just Action Talks are offered at a 6th grade level of vocabulary. They are intended for K-12 students and are open to any age. These informational interviews are intended to expose students to the variety of jobs available in the field of sustainability. After the adult describes a normal day at their job, what they love about their job, its challenges, and what it took to get there for about 15 minutes, the dialogue becomes open to Q & A. Chatham students are welcome to attend. Please try to keep vocabulary at a 6th-grade level while asking questions to help make the workshop age inclusive.
