Carnegie Robotics is proud to introduce the Black Engineering Scholars Program. The program promotes educational and economic equity through community outreach, professional mentorship, and financial assistance to students from the Greater Pittsburgh Areas’ black community who are pursuing a degree in an engineering discipline. Each year they will select up to four high school students who will be chosen to receive a Carnegie Robotics’ Student Scholar Award.

Carnegie Robotics’ vision is to increase the number of black engineering professionals in the technology workforce.

BENEFITS

Benefits of being selected as a Carnegie Robotics’ Student Scholar:

  • Entry to candidacy for CR Distinguished Scholar Program which awards $5,000 per year in scholarship assistance to accredited engineering colleges and universities (renewal for up to 4 years, or $20,000).

  • Recipients of the CR Distinguished Scholarship will not only receive monetary assistance, but also mentoring throughout the collegiate years, eligibility for a summer internship at CR, and guidance into the workforce after graduation.

  • Mentoring for technical degree selection, college section, and for college applications.

  • Invitation to tour CR facilities and meet engineering staff members (COVID-19 restrictions permitting).

  • Financial assistance up to $400 to cover the cost of standardized
    tests and college application fees.

  • Opportunity for a CR sponsored summer technical program after the senior year of high school is completed.

REQUIREMENTS

Eligibility requirements for the program:

  • Plan to enroll in a 4-year college engineering program in the fall of 2021.

  • Self identity as Black/African American.

  • Currently enrolled as a senior starting in the fall of 2020 at a high school residing in the Pennsylvania counties of Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Armstrong, Westmoreland, and Washington.
