Join the New Castle Area School District for a free, three-day STEAM Tinker Tank workshop series. This experience is designed for K-12 educators and administrators in Southwestern Pennsylvania and no previous experience is needed.

Workshop Overview: Participants will choose from two STEAM tracks, elementary (for grades K-6) or secondary (grades 7-12), and will participate in five different sessions throughout the series. Sessions will include challenge-based tasks, asking participants to solve using a project-based, hands-on approach to learning. All participants will be challenged to design, make, and innovate as each session unfolds!

Sessions will be long enough so participants can apply skills and concepts more deeply. Teachers will make cross-curricular STEAM connections and develop projects in their respective content areas that can easily be incorporated into their classrooms. Educators will have the opportunity to learn more and explore areas of coding/programming, robotics, design thinking, maker learning, digital fabrications, virtual reality, novel engineering, drones, and app creation.

Spotlight on Tinker Tank Activities: The workshop’s first will include a keynote speaker, who will address why educational leaders need to think differently about teaching and learning in order to better equip students with the skills and tools necessary for their future. The last day of the series will feature lightning talks with other educational leaders in and around the area, who will share innovative practices with participants. The last day will also include time for educators to “tinker” with projects and new ideas, as well as visit interactive exhibits and a mobile FabLab.
