Vaught will both challenge and deepen attendees’ understanding of the school-to-prison pipeline, the relationship of schools and prisons, and cultures of punishment. The knowledge in this talk will map pathways toward educational resistance and change.
A limited quantity of their books First Strike: Educational Enclosures in Black Los Angeles and Compulsory: Education and the Dispossession of Youth in a Prison School will be available to registrants for free.
There will be books available for purchase. Light refreshments will be available at 11:45 a.m.
