The Hillman Academy provides authentic and mentored research and academic development experiences to a diverse group of high school students. The program is full time over an 8-week span in the summer. Students are placed in individual faculty member’s labs to work on a project with them or someone in their lab (grad student/postdoc). We accept ~65 students a summer. The program is free to all local students and we have 20+ stipends of $2400 that we pay to students from underrepresented groups to incentivize their participation. We encourage applications from all interested students, especially those from diverse backgrounds, over the age of 15 who are interested in STEM, biomedicine, and research.
Application dates: November 20th 2018 – February 8th 2019
Program Dates: June 10th 2019 – August 2nd 2019
Further, if you have a group of interested students, we are happy to make visits to local schools to talk about this opportunity or cancer research in general. Starting this year, we also have an option to host a personal webinar for schools that are either too far away, or cannot schedule an in person visit. Please contact sol39@pitt.edu to schedule these events.
