The Homework Hotline Supervisor(s) will supervise the operation of the Homework Hotline and of the Math Tutors who provide academic support to local middle and high school math students and Penn State New Kensington students. Weekly commitment would typically range from 3-10 hours. The Homework Hotline Supervisors will provide support through the 2018-19 academic year with possible continuation based on supervisory effectiveness and on funding availability. Several Homework Hotline Supervisors will share the responsibilities to fully staff the Homework Hotline with each Supervisor typically working 1 – 3 days each week.

Requirements: Must demonstrate an ability to quickly establish rapport and communicate well with college students serving as Homework Hotline Tutors. Must demonstrate an ability to solve problems, to effectively communicate and to adhere to established policies. Must hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (mathematics or a closely related field strongly preferred). Experience with teaching or tutoring of math strongly preferred. Experience in supervision strongly preferred. Homework Hotline Supervisor Duties (approximately 3-10 hours/week).

The Homework Hotline operates Sunday-Thursday from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The supervisor will be expected to work 1 – 3 evenings per week. Duties will provide an excellent opportunity to enhance technical, leadership, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills and to become a vital part of a new community outreach program based on Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s well-respected Homework Hotline.

Responsibilities include the following: Oversee nightly operations of the Homework Hotline call center; support and assist math tutors with difficult calls; on-site monitoring of all tutoring exchanges to ensure appropriate conduct of math tutors; troubleshoot problems (technical, academic, personnel, etc.); and complete nightly reports. General responsibilities include: Conduct surveys; assist with new tutor training; complete observations and evaluations of math tutors; attend meetings with Homework Hotline staff, supervisor partner, and others as needed; assist with endorsement of program within the community; monitor math tutors’ schedules, attendance, and workload; and other duties as assigned.
